Our Hoop Iron is 100% Traminette. Traminette is related to the German grape Gewürztraminer, and was developed by Cornell University to survive cold winters. Traminette can have a heavy, sweet, floral, perfumed aroma. We try to play down those perfumed aromas and bring out spice and subtle floral notes. We ferment the wine at temperatures below 60° and use wine yeast typically used for Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc. The wine is fermented to 100% dry and held in stainless steel for nine months, to preserve a crisp, clean taste.
