wine makers notes

We learned long ago that we're not California or the Finger Lakes.

We are Fly Creek, NY, where winter temperatures drop to -25°F

and frost can come as early as August and as late as May.

Weather is so predictably unpredictable that our climate doesn't support some of the more familiar wine making grapes.

Instead, we work with grapes developed for their cold hardy qualities that grow well in upstate New York. Our winemaking reflects the reality that winters start in early November and can

put the small barn that houses our tank room, into hibernation

until the snow starts to melt in late March.

We enjoy the challenges and rewards of working with local, uncommon varietals. We think you’ll appreciate the quality, distinctive wines we make from grapes like Marquette, La Crescent and Vidal Blanc. Learn more about how we make our wines, here.
